National Merit Finalist Kimberly Solti is this week's Summit Award winner. This accomplished young woman not only carries a 4.0 GPA, but will have attained credits for seven college level courses upon graduation. During her senior year, Solti enrolled in calculus 2 and 3, physics, English 1010 and composition 2010, general psychology, advanced CADD, American government and firearms. As a member of the National Honor Society, Solti exemplifies the highest standards in academic excellence.
Sheridan became home to Solti and her family in the fall of 2017. Although the transition was difficult at times, she attributes meeting a lot of wonderful students her first few weeks of school to helping her settle in more comfortably. New course offerings, new clubs and new activities also helped Solti in her successful and active days at Sheridan High School.
Solti became a cheerleader in 2017 and serves as the captain this year, a legacy shared from mother to daughter at Sheridan High School. Twice nominated to All State, Solti was also selected as an NCA All-American Cheerleader in 2018. She credits cheerleading with shaping her leadership skills and acknowledges Stephanie Vela, cheerleading coach, as providing a constant hand in guiding and shaping her team.
"Kimberly is a wonderful young lady and so deserving of this award," Vela said of Solti. "She is an incredibly hard worker who is dedicated to whatever she sets her sights on. I admire Kimberly's leadership skills and her desire to help others grow and improve. She was absolutely instrumental in our team's success this year. She not only is incredibly organized and motivated, but she also makes time to have fun. She is very inclusive and kind-hearted toward her peers and is someone that her teammates look up to. She is pure of heart and fun loving. I am beyond blessed to have had her on my team and am so very proud of her and all of her accomplishments. She will undoubtedly go far and be successful wherever she goes. She will be tremendously missed on the SHS Cheer Team."
At Sheridan High School, Solti found teachers and administrators who truly care about students and their success. Solti nominated Carol Stewart, English teacher, as her outstanding educator.
"Mrs. Stewart in an incredibly kind, helpful and knowledgeable teacher and she gives students advice and assistance, especially regarding college questions and application essays," Solti said.
In speaking about Solti, Stewart said she is an amazing young woman.
"Her enthusiasm for learning, intellectual curiosity and integrity impress me on a daily basis," Stewart said. "Kim approaches each assignment with dedication, motivation and a determination to do quality work. She is beautifully articulate when writing and speaking. Kim isn't afraid to think outside the box and explore creative topics and novel approaches to looking at more familiar ones. Kim is unfailingly kind and respectful to peers and teachers. It's been an honor and privilege to work with her."
A defining factor in Solti's daily life is her faith. She is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Newman Club and teaches a first-grade catechism class at Holy Name Catholic Church.
Growing up in a military family provided experiences for Solti that shaped her outlook and approach to life.
"Being a military child has taught me to be motivated, to always relish in my current situation, get involved in my school and community, continually learn new things and make memorable experiences," Solti said.
Additionally, Solti attributes her work ethic to her parents and the modeling they provided. Chris and Jim Solti, according to Solti, have instilled values that they live each day through actions and not words.
As a recipient of the Trustee's Scholars Award, Solti will attend the University of Wyoming in the fall of 2019. She plans to study engineering with an emphasis on either biomedical or mechanical engineering. As is evident so far, Solti will give it her all as she transitions to the next phase of her life.
