Showtime has made Who is America? and episodes will be airing on a weekly basis on Sunday nights in the US first.

“Sacha is a comedic genius who shocks you with his audacity, bravery and inventiveness,” said Showtime CEO David Nevins said.
The television executive went on to say: “He is the premier provocateur of our time, but not for the sake of ‘gotcha’ moments.
“Behind the elaborate setup is a genuine quest for the truth about people, places and politics.”
Nevins added: “Nobody knows how to cause a stir like Sacha Baron Cohen, and it’s going to be fascinating to watch what happens when WHO IS AMERICA? is released on the world.”
What is Who is America? about?
The Sacha Baron Cohen vehicle sees the comedian again donning various costumes as he transforms into several characters and speaks to unsuspecting interviewees.
A series summary from Showtime states: “Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen explores the diverse individuals, from the infamous to the unknown across the political and cultural spectrum, who populate our unique nation.”
Cohen is turning his gaze back to America and this time will be playing characters such as an Israeli anti-terrorism expert Erran Morad and a far-right conspiracy theorist called Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr, among other alter-egos.
Sneak peek videos from Showtime have given audiences a taster of what to expect from the opening instalment with one clip showing Baron Cohen is heavy prosthetics as Erran Morad and talking to American pro-gun activists.
During the sketch, one activist even agrees to take part in an instructional video aimed at three-year-olds about how to use guns.
The activist is later seen with Baron Cohen’s character brandishing a firearm with a soft toy on the barrel.
His alter-ego also talks to lobbyists about giving weapons to children in a bid to protect them from gunmen and halt mass school shootings.
Baron Cohen has to wear more prosthetics than ever before to disguise himself for Who is America? due to his high profile.
Who is America? follows in the footsteps of many other successful projects from Baron Cohen, including Da Ali G Show which garnered six Emmy Award nominations and walked away with two BAFTAs during its four-year run.
Meanwhile, his feature film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan earned him an Oscar nod for screenplay and a Golden Globe for acting.
Baron Cohen also has a successful Hollywood career with past credits including Alice Through the Looking Glass, Les Miserables, Bruno, The Dictator, Hugo, and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Who is America will air on Channel 4 tonight at 10pm
