GRAFTON—The Grafton Bearcats cheerleading squad placed seventh in the Big 10 cheerleading competition held at Buckhannon-Upshur High School on Thursday.
Bridgeport won the competition over Lincoln, who finished in second place.
The Cougars captured the runner-up spot at both the Region II and Big 10 competitions. Second place in the region qualified the Lady Cougars for the Class AA state competition.
Other schools which competed in the Big 10 event were (in no particular order): Lewis County Liberty, North Marion, Philip Barbour, Preston, Robert C. Byrd, Buckhannon-Upshur, East Fairmont, Elkins, Fairmont Senior, and Grafton.
The Lady Bearcats had a fantastic season under first-year head coach Chatera Morris and her assistant, Alyssa Duckworth. They finished third at Regionals (held at East Fairmont High School) last weekend and then seventh at the Big 10 event and can't wait for next season to roll around.
"Once again these girls leave me so incredibly proud," said Morris. "They went out there and hit this routine with grace and placed seventh out of 13 teams in the Big 10, which is huge. They absolutely killed it and made us proud. I can't wait to start working towards next year."
