CHATHAM, NJ - While the Chatham football team was holding double sessions to prepare for the 2019 season, the CHS cheerleaders held their own rigorous training camp.
The 18-member cheerleading squad got together for consecutive days of 7-hour "boot camp" practices to learn all the routines for the upcoming season, which starts with the first football game on Sept. 7 when Chatham visits Morris Hills.
"We started Aug. 19 and we've been working really hard, practicing five days a week," Tara DiSturco, Chatham cheerleading coach, said. "We've been preparing routines, learning new cheers, practicing our stunts."
Senior tri-captains Rachel Rheinhardt, Reagan Fox and Haley McVeigh have been keeping tabs on the football team while preparing for their own cheers and routines.
"Hopefully, it will be a good season," Rheinhardt said. "I have faith. We've seen them practicing and they've been working hard on their passing."
McVeigh, who has been cheering for 12 years, rates the current Chatham squad as "the most advanced" in stunting skills since she's been on the team.
The squad includes Erin Bolger, Lauren Clark, Carla Chevalier, Charlotte Egan, Bree Haberman, Livvy Macchia, Jane Meyers, Nicole Mueller, Annabel Neuner, Hailey O'Donnell, Sabrina Panico, Kylie Schaffer, Meghan Warner, Amanda Williams, and Camile Winn.
"We have one new band dance, a new halftime routine with some updated stuff," Rheinhardt said.
