A student-athlete on the Drury women's bowling team died in an auto accident on Tuesday night, according to a news release from the university.

Nineteen-year-old Caroline Conrad, a native of Memphis, completed her sophomore year at Drury this past spring. She appeared in 30 games and bowled 786 frames for a 174.2 per-game average. She was named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic team.

"Caroline was an integral part of the success of our team and the definition of a true student-athlete," Drury women's bowling head coach Larry Hughes said in a news release. "I have never encountered anyone involved in as many organizations on campus as she was, while still maintaining A+ standards in the classroom and competing at the NCAA level.

"She was always willing to listen and learn to improve her game, but when not in the lineup became the biggest cheerleader for her teammates. Caroline will be deeply missed by all of us in the bowling program, the athletic department, and the Drury campus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her parents Craig and Rebecca, as well as her sisters, Hannah and Grace. No one will be able to replace the energy of No. 19."

Conrad was a double-major in criminal justice and psychology while serving as a campus leader in several organizations. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and served as vice president for events on Drury's Panhellenic Council.

"Caroline was a leader on our campus and exemplified what it means to be a student, teammate, and friend at Drury University," Drury University President Dr. Timothy Cloyd said in the release. "Just as the addition of each individual adds to the tapestry of our institution, a loss such as this affects us all. Please keep Craig and Rebecca, and all of Caroline's family, friends, teammates, and coaches in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Drury said Conrad's parents have been highly supportive of the university through the Parent Council and have hosted Drury students at their Memphis home during an alternative fall break trip.

Conrad joined Drury after a career as a student and high school bowler. She helped lead St. Agnes Academy in Memphis to two state championships while winning an individual state title in 2016 and was named Tennessee's Miss Bowling.

"My deepest condolences are with Caroline's family today and the members of our women's bowling team," Drury Vice President and Director of Athletics Corey Bray said in the release. "This is a difficult and sudden loss for Drury Athletics as well as the entire campus.

"Caroline's personality, leadership, abilities as a student, and involvement in various activities during the last two years, however, positively impacted the Drury community in immeasurable ways."
