McGregor senior Chaney Heiner signed a letter of intent Tuesday to cheer at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Chaney inked the deal at the high school Tuesday surrounded by her friends and family, including mother Shannon and father Duane.

"Duane and I are so very proud of her," Shannon said.

"She has taken the reins and chasing her dream and with God's help she is going to be able to do it."

Family members say they think Chaney is one of the first from the Class 3-A high school ever to receive a cheer scholarship.

Cheering in college has been a dream of Chaney's who chose the school, her family says, for many reasons.

"She's very excited to cheer in college and chose Tarleton due to the fact she developed a great relationship with the team during all her times going to the cheer clinics they put on," her mom said.

"Her sister is also attending college there and she loves football."

Chaney also excelled in track while a student at McGregor and was involved in horseback riding and activities with her church.

She'll report to Tarleton in July for cheer practice.
