The Hartselle youth football and cheerleading leagues will hold registration at Sparkman Park Pavilion No. 4 May 28 from 6-8 p.m. The league will have additional registration dates at the Sparkman Civic Center June 3, 10 and 17 from 6-8 p.m.

The league is open to students ages 4-12, in the sixth grade or younger. Students will need to pick up a physical form, have a birth certificate and pay $80 per player to register. Those who register May 28 will receive a $10 discount, and families with multiple children in the league will also receive $10 off. Parents are also required to volunteer two hours for each child or pay $25 to help with concessions, gates and cleanup.

Amberly Bridges is one of the league organizers this year, and she said she is excited for some new additions to the program. There will be a new stunt cheer squad to help students prepare for cheering at the high school level, as well as additional safety measures added for the football players.

"This year we want to push really hard for safety. Our coaches are now going to be USA Heads Up football certified," Bridges said. "It is a four-hour safety course that is two hours of classroom and two hours of hands-on training."

Cheerleaders will also have a new opportunity to learn more about stunts they would see at the high school level. Girls must participate in 95 percent of games and practices and will have the opportunity to attend stunt clinics led by the Hartselle varsity cheerleaders.

The youth league has about eight games every year, with additional games for playoffs. Practice begins in July, and the first game is set for Aug. 22.

Additional information can be found on the league Facebook page, Hartselle Youth Football and Cheerleaders.
