TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo sports program is in need of donations in order to make sure all children can continue to play for free this season.
The Toledo Outlaws are a football and cheerleading team in North Toledo that's been around for about five years. They practice at Chase Elementary.
The team is in desperate need of gear like tackle dummies, shoulder pads and helmets.
The program is coached by Rogers alum like Brandon Linzy. Coach Linzy and seven other coaches are responsible for funding the team. Between equipment, league feeds and a meal, coaches are spending thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to make sure local kids have all they need to succeed each season.
When UpLyft Toledo heard about the need - the charity stepped up to help. It's part of the nonprofit's mission - collecting and distributing sports gear to local programs like the Outlaws to make sure all of Toledo's youth have the opportunity to participate in athletics.
Around 80 kids will play for free this season and practice is already underway. The first game is September 1. If you'd like to help, you can donate by sending a Facebook message to the Outlaws or UpLyft Toledo.
If you know of any other local sports teams in need of equipment, reach out to UpLyft Toledo.
