A former University of Kentucky cheerleader died Tuesday after he was reportedly struck by multiple vehicles Tuesday in New Jersey.

Jahmir Scott, 22, had gotten out of his vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike after it became disabled just after midnight Tuesday when he was struck by two tractor-trailers and a car, NJ.com reported.

Scott, of Allentown, New Jersey, was pronounced dead after being hit in the northbound truck lanes near milepost 51.6 in Mansfield, according to New Jersey State Police.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said Scott stopped after "having some kind of an issue," with his vehicle, according to NJ.com.

Peele said Scott was struck as he tried to cross three lanes of traffic to reach the right shoulder, according to nj1015.com.

He was traveling alone, NJ.com reported.

The drivers of the three vehicles that hit Scott stopped and were cooperating with investigators, according to NJ.com.

On Twitter, Kentucky Cheerleading wrote that it is "with great sadness that we announce former University of Kentucky cheerleader, Hero Scott, has passed."

"We will miss his smile, Broadway singing, and determined attitude," Kentucky Cheerleading tweeted. "Our thoughts & prayers go out to his friends and family in this sad time. Once a wildcat, always a wildcat."

Scott was on the cheer team's roster for the past two years, UK Athletics spokesman Guy Ramsey told the Kentucky Kernel

He was also listed on Syracuse University's cheer team during the 2015-16 school year.
