What is Murder Mountain on Netflix about?
Murder Mountain is a true-crime documentary series that investigates the mysterious disappearances and deaths of individuals who visit Murder Mountain.
The series also looks at the legal and illegal marijuana drug trade in California and the fallout from the War on Drugs that began in the 1970s.
Murder Mountain is the name given to the Rancho Sequoia area of Alderpoint in Humboldt County, California.
The name derives from the Carson serial killers in the 1980s and numerous disappearances since then.
Michael Bear Carson and Susan Barnes Carson were found guilty of carrying out three murders between 1982 and 1983 and are currently serving life sentences in prison.
However, since then, people have continued to disappear at Murder Mountain and some bodies have never been recovered.
Clips of the Murder Mountain trailer show numerous missing people posters.
Often more than one person will feature on these posters.
Two recent high profile cases that are addressed in Murder Mountain is the story of 38-year old Robert Tennison who disappeared in 2009 and 29-year-old Garret Rodriguez who went missing in April 2013.
Rodriguez's remains were recovered eight months later and his death was ruled a homicide.
The official synopsis reads: “What happens when California dreaming becomes a nightmare?
“When people head to Humboldt County, California in search of quick riches in the form of marijuana, often times they are unaware of the price they might ultimately pay in the illegal cannabis growing capital of the United States.
“The area produces at least 60 per cent of the black market marijuana crop in the US, and also leads the state in missing person cases.
“The series dives into the disappearance of one of these individuals, following the trial of 29-year-old Garret Rodriguez who goes missing on Murder Mountain.
“His disappearance and the events surrounding the investigation into his whereabouts threaten to expose a wild, lawless place, and will forever change the local community.”
Judging by the trailer, it looks like Murder Mountain is going to be one of the most gripping true crime series on Netflix.
California police officers, drug dealers and family members of those who are missing feature in the series, granting a real insight into the horrific and mysterious events at Murder Mountain.
