NCIS season 16 hit screens on September 25 and made its big return to CBS.

After US broadcast, the show will be available to watch online on the CBS website and CBS All Access service.

UK fans don't yet know when the show will be back and will have to wait for the latest adventures of Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), McGee (Sean Murray) and the rest of NCIS crew.

The previous season of the naval crime drama did not air on Fox UK until January 2018, meaning that season 16 is likely to drop the same time in 2019.

When Fox airs the first episode, it will likely be available to stream on Now TV.

For those who need their NCIS fix to fill the gap before new episodes, all 15 seasons are now available to watch on Netflix.

It is not known how soon after broadcast season 16 will be available.

NCIS season 15 finished in May 2018 and was available on Netflix in July 2018, so expect NCIS on Netflix next summer.

New CBS subscribers will get a 7-day free trial and the service will cost $5.99 a month after the trial.

On UK Amazon, episodes are not available via subscription, but NCIS fans can buy seasons 1-14.

Episodes cost £1.89, while season passes cost between £19.99 and £29.99 depending on the season.

These seasons are also available to buy on the Google Play Store and on iTunes.

However, the long-running crime procedural is not currently available on subscription streaming services like Netflix.

What will happen in NCIS season 16?

NCIS season 16 will begin with a episode titled Destiny’s Child that picks up where the season 15 finale Date with Destiny left off.

The official synopsis reads: “A month after Leon Vance's (Rocky Carroll) kidnapping, Gibbs is assigned as acting director while the team searches his whereabouts.”

The season will also see Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover) promoted to series regular.

She appeared in season 15 as a recurring character as Dr Mallard’s grad assistant following the departure of Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) after over 350 episodes.

NCIS season 16 airs Tuesday, September 25 at 8pm Eastern/Pacific time on CBS
