McDONOUGH - The Ola Lady Mustangs were among the many teams to reach state for Henry County this year and were joined on finals day by Union Grove.
However, it was the Lady Mustangs who carried the mantle with a third-place finish overall in the state meet in the Columbus Civic Center for the 2019 Georgia High School Association Cheerleading State Championships.
Ola carried the county flag in state meet but, that's not to overshadow the Cheerleader of the Year award that was handed to Union Grove's Sidney Butler as well.
Union Grove head coach Kristen Tilson says that Butler earned the award.
"Sidney has definitely earned this award," Tilson said. "Not only is she an amazing and hardworking athlete, she is an outstanding student. She has been the driving force behind her team this season and gladly stepped up when she was given the opportunity to lead. We are so lucky to have had someone like Sidney in our cheer program. She is so deserving of this honor. We could not be more proud that she is representing Union Grove as this years Georgia Cheerleader of the Year."
