Two Central New York cheerleading teams have qualified for the nationals in Orlando, Florida.

According to the official Clay Panthers Facebook page, the Clay Panthers Pop Warner Mitey Mites and Varsity teams qualified at the Eastern Regionals for the National Cheer and Dance Competition on December 9-10 in Orlando. They'll compete with more than 500 of the nation's top cheerleading and dance teams at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex located in the Walt Disney World Resort.

The cheer teams, coaches and families are raising money from business sponsors and local supporters to help pay for the trip. A Facebook fundraising page has been set up for online donations, and fundraising events will also be held:

  • Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30 -- Bottle and can drives every Saturday in Clay
  • Nov. 11 -- Monday Night Football at Home Team Pub, Liverpool, from 6:30-10 p.m.
  • Nov. 22: Christmas Movie Night at Moyers Corners Fire department - Station 1 from 6:30-10 p.m.

"These kids have put everything they have to make it to nationals," the fundraising page says. "With being so close to Christmas, we really need some help to make this happen."
