KENOSHA, WI (WSAU) -- Cheerleaders at Bradford High School in the Kenosha Unified District are upset after school leaders voted down their proposed memorial to a former teammate who was killed this summer.

The football cheer squad planned to honor 15-year-old Kaylie Juga, who police say was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend Martice Fuller after he forced his way into her house back in May.

Juga was a friend to many on the cheer squad, who were planning a short routine along with a moment of silence. They also planned to carry her picture with them onto the sidelines.

However, school officials are concerned that the presentation could be too much and have shut it down, saying they will remain "neutral" on the topic because if they allow such a memorial for one student, they would be required to do so for all.

In a statement, district leaders said: "While the District fully supports students and staff in moments of crisis, it cannot allow memorializing or acknowledging one student without allowing it for both."

The statement added that the decision was made to protect the school from possible legal claims.

Fuller is also accused of shooting Juga's mother Stephanie, who survived.
