Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV) cheerleaders from Camden High School (CHS) attended a Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) cheerleading camp at Lander University from July 26 to 28 and returned home with a number of honors.
In addition to learning new material during the camp, CHS cheerleaders were required to incorporate their own choreography and stunting into material for competition, which took place July 28.
The varsity squad competed against other large varsity squads and won first place in the Rally Dance Competition and first place overall in the Game Day competition, where the team performed a band dance, cheer and situational sideline cheer.
The JV squad competed against other middle school squads and won first place for its Game Day Competition cheer and second place overall in the Game Day Competition.
Three varsity cheerleaders -- Morgan Clay, Kiana Murdaugh and Dayton Jeffcoat -- were selected by UCA to the All-American Cheerleaders, an honor given to select individuals who exemplified showmanship, poise, technique and/or crowd-leading skills.
JV cheerleader Cindy Brasington won the JV jump-off competition, and JV cheerleader Destiny Ward received a pin in the camp's Pin It Forward competition. The pin goes to campers who are stepping up to be a leader by setting a good example for their peers, including members on other teams.
