ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Annie's Locker is touching soles, providing hundreds of underserved kids throughout the stateline with a free pair of gym shoes as part of its share a pair initiative.

Annie's Locker delivered the shoes Thursday night to kids at the Washington Park Community Center. Students at the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford will receive shoes later this summer. Organizers say this event allows kids to get a brand new pair of shoes while also promoting them to incorporate fitness and play into their daily lives.

"These are brand new shoes for the kids so that they have something that's safe for them to use and something that's of really good quality for them," said Annie's Locker board member Brian Reck.

"We really appreciate it because they are running shoes and it helps her to keep active. She's a very active child in everything from cheerleading to dancing from basketball to football, so those running shoes will help out a lot," said Darlene Titsworth, whose daughter received a pair of shoes.
