PATNA: Union minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party are behaving like "cheerleaders" of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Taking to Twitter, Giriraj also said that Pakistan should start preparations to handover Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to India, rather than harping on Kashmir and a "referendum" there, because India now has government of Narendra Modi, and not of Jawaharlal Nehru.
"Rahul Gandhi and Congress are in a strange situation. They are behaving like cheerleaders of Imran Khan. Imran does not know his 'aukat' (strength). He should stop harping on referendum and Kashmir, and start preparations to handover PoK to India because India now has government of Modi and not of Nehru," Giriraj tweeted in Hindi on Wednesday.
The union minister, in fact, reacted over Rahul Gandhi's Tuesday tweet in which the latter had said, "President Trump says PM Modi asked him to mediate between India & Pakistan on Kashmir! If true, PM Modi has betrayed India's interests & 1972 Shimla Agreement. A weak Foreign Ministry denial won't do. PM must tell the nation what transpired in the meeting between him & @POTUS."
Giriraj's reaction came soon after the opposition members raised the issue realted to Trump's statement for the second consecutive day in Parliament and sought a reply from the PM Modi over Trump's claim that he had sought his mediation over Kashmir.
On Monday, Trump, during a meeting with Imran Khan, had claimed that Modi requested him to mediate the long-pending Kashmir issue. However, union ministry of external affairs categorically rejected Trump's claim.
Giriraj's remark on Rahul invited sharp reaction from leaders of different political parties in Bihar.
"I don't give importance to statement of people like Giriraj Singh. Such people happens to be mentally ill," RJD MLA Bhai Birendra said.
However, BJP MLA Sanjay Sarawagi said, "Whatever Giriraj Singh has said it completely correct."
