WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL             ANNOUNCEMENTS                         5/6/2019

 

Today is a GOLD Day!

 

Upcoming events and dates to remember:

May 16 – Orchestra concert 6:30pm lg. gym

May 21 – Band concert 6:30pm lg. gym

May 23 – Chorus concert 6:30pm lg. gym

May 27 – NO SCHOOL – Memorial Day

May 31 – 8th grade Recognition 10:00am lg. gym

June 3 – Talent Show – 1:30pm lg. gym

June 5 – Last Day of School – 2 hour early dismissal

 

All choir students are meeting in the large gym during homeroom today for a combined choir rehearsal. 8th grade period 6 choir students should see Mr. Swartzendruber sometime today to pickup a homeroom pass."

 

Attention 8th grade students! Muscatine High School cheerleaders are coming to visit you Thursday, May 9th during MTSS. Come watch them show off their skills and talk about the cheerleading program. They can also answer questions about tryouts. Tryouts will be May 13th and 15th at 4:00 at MHS. Pick up a packet in the

(GOLD) office to fill out and bring to tryouts.

 

The Muscatine Community YMCA is playing host the Central 6th and 7th Ricochet Groups community service project.  A Middle School Fortnite Tournament, with all funds raised going to MCSA will be held on Friday, May 10th from 5-9pm at the YMCA.  You can register to play by stopping by the YMCA.  The event is $5 to play, only 20 spots left.  Everyone can join in the fun to cheer on their favorite player and other activities during the event  for $1 or a canned food donation.  There will be concession for sale. Students, beginning on Monday, May 6 there will be a bake sale after school with the profits going to the Muscatine Humane Society. All baked goods will be $1.00. Please bring money and help the animals.

We will also having a pet supply donation drive beginning Tuesday, May 7th.  Please bring any of the following items:

paper towels

trash bags

dog/puppy and cat/kitten food (name brand)

Mr. Clean

High Efficiency Laundry Soap

Sponges with scrubby sides

Hand soap and sanitizer

You can drop off donations in the bin in front of the main office or Room the bin in room 16, Mrs. Curtis' room. 

Please look for the posters for more information about the bake sale and pet supply drive. 

Please consider helping these poor animals. They need us.

 

Students, have you been looking for the perfect opportunity to be judged and win prizes for being awesome?  If so, make sure you stop outside the gold office to sign up for the West Middle School talent show.  You must sign up for the talent show by the end of lunch Monday, as auditions will be held late next week.  Please make sure you will be available for the day and time you sign up.  If you have questions please see Miss Fox or Mrs. Castillo.  

 

Auditions for next year's high school show choirs are next Thursday after school here at West. Any 8th grade student can audition regardless of choir or show choir experience. Auditions will run from 3:30-5:00/5:30. See Mr. Swartzendruber for audition materials.

 

The MCSD Middle School Transition Committee is extending an invitation to the Muscatine community to participate in the process of submitting suggestions for the name of the combined middle school which is scheduled to open on July 30, 2020. Please visit www.muscatine.k12.ia.us to submit your choice.

 

Do you like to lead, plan, problem-solve, organize, and make decisions? MHS StuCo might be the place for you! 8th-grade students interested in serving on the Muscatine High School Student Council for the 2019-2020 school year need to pick up an application packet in the front office. Application packets are due Wednesday, May 8th by 3:30 to the front office of your perspective school. Packets will then be forwarded to the StuCo advisors. (Read directions carefully!)
