UWSP SAAC hands out student-athlete awards

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual awards banquet 'The SP's' on Sunday at the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point and handed out 20 awards.

The SP's recognize UWSP student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and cheerleaders. The 20 awards given out were voted on by their peers. The award banquet also included recognition of conference champions and All-Americans.

The top award of the night was the Pointer Award, given to an all-around excellent student-athlete, someone who displays hard work, a positive attitude and determination in athletics, the classroom and the community. UWSP wrestler Ben Vosters took home the honor. Vosters also took home the Male Individual Performance of the Year and the Game Face of the Year awards.

But, it was the National Champion men's hockey team that garnered the most awards. The Best Championship Performance, Jaw Dropping Moment, Coach of the Year, Moment of the Year and Team Performance awards were all picked up by the men's hockey team.

Lip Sync Battle - Women's Basketball
PointDawgPound Fan of the Year - Jeff Jung
Community Service Award - Women's Basketball
Students of the Year - Nora Hargett and Austin Stebane
Upset of the Year - Football

UWSP Cheerleading works with Dream Team

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - For the ninth-straight year, the UW-Stevens Point cheerleading team has helped with the Dream Team, a group of special needs individuals of all ages.

This year, the UWSP cheer team spent more than 675 hours in practice sessions and at competitions with the Dream Team. The group performed at seven different competitions in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
