The Summit All-Star Cheerleading Championship is the pinnacle event of the all-star cheerleading world.

Nearly 1,000 teams compete every year at Walt Disney Worlds ESPN Wide World of Sports. Thousands of cheerleaders compete all year long for their shot to compete on one of the most exclusive stages in all-star cheerleading history.

Four Cohasset cheerleaders (Miranda Schmidt, Devin Tulio, Madison and Mackenzie Steinmetz) all were in Orlando this past weekend competing against some of the toughest cheerleading teams in the nation. Premier Spirit Athletics, in Weymouth, is the cheer gym they call home. Ashley Doran, owner and coach of PSA, is the one who got these Cohasset girls to the stage.

Teams must compete for a Summit bid at one of many events held around the United States. As cheerleading evolves and teams refine their skills, it becomes more difficult to obtain a Summit bid. All four Cohasset Girls competed in seven different competitions with the hopes of getting a bid to Summit. Competition season started in December and ended the first weekend of April.

Miranda Schmidt, a Cohasset High freshman, competed with her team JLove, an international level 2 team. Her team of 23 girls ages 1015, were against fierce competition from all over the World. Her team advanced to Day 2 of competition. Overall, her team placed 15th out of 62 international teams. The top three teams were from Japan.

Tulio, a Cohasset High sophomore, competed with her team Lavender Crush, a level 2 domestic team made up of 27 girls, ages 12-18.

Madison and Mackenzie Steinmetz, Deer Hill fifth-graders, competed with their team The Ice Queens. They are on a level 1 team made up of 23 girls, ages 9-11. The honor of competing on such a grand scale is an achievement many cheerleaders strive for.

Premier Spirit Athletics in Weymouth has 11 teams ranging from level 1 to level 5. Age range is from 3 to 18. Ashley Doran, the coach and owner, had 5 Summit Bid eligible teams and all earned a bid. No team left behind. Her level 1 Senior team, Royal, won 1st place at Summit for their division.

Congratulation to the four Cohasset All-Star cheerleaders for working hard and achieving such an honor.
