Anjelica Huston Apologizes for Poms Comments: “I Hope They Come Back at Me” - Vanity Fair

Anjelica Huston is in the "mea culpa" phase of her John Wick 3 press tour. Exactly one week ago, the actress sat down for a rousing interview with New York magazine, in which she criticized the career choices of some of her contemporaries and said she would never make, just for example, an "old-lady cheerleader movie." That seemed like an explicit jab at Poms, Diane Keaton's latest film, which is about a group of women in a retirement community who start a cheerleading club. Huston's comments quickly made the rounds, prompting Poms star Jacki Weaver to tell Vanity Fair, "Well, she can go fuck herself." Now, Huston would like to apologize (sort of!) for causing so much trouble.

"I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings," she said in a new radio interview with Andy Cohen. "And if I did, I hope they come back at me."

Huston also said that much of what she said in that interview has been previously mentioned in her memoirs, so she was surprised to learn that her latest quotes got so much traffic. "I can't say that I felt I was saying anything wildly out of place, because most of the things are in my books anyway," she said. "Actually for once this was a journalist who really had done his homework."

Still, the Poms team seems less than thrilled with Huston's remarks. After Weaver's cheeky response, Rhea Perlman commented on Huston's remarks in an interview with ET Canada—noting first that she's known Huston since the 1970s, and was perplexed by her Poms dig.

"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all," Perlman said. "Why would you do that? It was very odd. It was like she had some vendetta. It felt cruel and mean."

Perlman also revealed that she had been actually scheduled to appear on Cohen's Watch What Happens Live alongside Huston, which would not have been awkward at all. However, both Perlman and Poms distributor STX quickly got Watch What Happens brass to swap guests (perhaps to the chagrin of Cohen's fans, who know he could have done some extraordinary feud wrangling here). Perlman instead taped her episode with Whoopi Goldberg (another expert feud wrangler). All this feud needs now is for Diane Keaton to comment, preferably in her natural press habitat: the cushy set of Ellen, with a glass of chilled wine at her side.
