Shawnee Community College is planning to provide another opportunity for local athletes in the college's district. Union County is in the district.
The college's board of trustees, upon a recommendation by college president Peggy Bradford, has approved the relaunch of the cheer program at Shawnee Community College.
The Shawnee Saints cheer program relaunch is scheduled to begin next semester and will provide student scholarship opportunities for our residents.
"There are so many talented athletes in our district who have cheered for many years in the local school systems and this new opportunity will give them the chance to continue their athletic endeavors in our region," Bradford said in a news release. "I am truly excited to help bring cheerleading back to the Saints family."
The cheerleading program will provide an opportunity for 14 half/time scholarships.
Interested athletes can contact the athletic department at 618-634-3200 for details about applying.
