The annual Lake Forest Middle School Football/Wrestling Squad Cheerleading Banquet was held in March.
While each cheerleader was lauded for individual successes and talents, a new award was created to honor former student and cheer manager Carly Smith.
Coach Jennifer Glass, who also is Carly's former special education teacher, created the Carly Smith Kindness Award. It is given to the squad member who exudes love of life, integrity and kindness.
The 2018-19 recipient was Brylee Clements, an eighth-grader at LFMS and captain of the Football/Wrestling Squad, according to coach Alyesse LoScudo.
Carly, who has never been defined by Down syndrome, is known for her smile, compassion and kindness. She is now a freshman at Bradley Central High, where she is manager of the BCHS Basketball Cheerleading Squad.
