The Kane High School competition cheerleaders will compete at Cheer Ltd. CANAM Nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC this weekend.

The varsity team. led by head coach Samantha Hayduk, has qualified to compete at the national event within the small varsity D2 division. This division is for teams of 12 athletes or fewer from high schools with no more than 900 students enrolled.

The Kane team has been competing at this event for nearly twenty years. Last year, the team placed second within the small varsity division, falling only one point shy of the North Carolina champions, Maiden High School.

"This year's team may be the strongest competitive cheerleading team to represent Kane High School," said Coach Hayduk. "We have received many compliments from other coaches within District 9, noting the strength and talent of this year's team. We are incredibly appreciative of that feedback, and we can't wait to showcase all of our hard work at Nationals this year. We are hoping to make history by bringing home the first CANAM Nationals championship title."

The Kane team has put in over 300 hours of practice and pre-season training since June.

Hayduk commented, "Most community members see us at football games, parades, basketball games, and wrestling matches, but they don't see all of the practice time we put into our own season. We hope to make Kane proud this weekend by delivering two of our best performances of the year."

The team is hosting a send-off event on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the KMS gymnasium. Here the team will perform one final routine for the community before departing for Myrtle Beach.
