Alamogordo Cheer will be having a community showcase from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 19 in the Tiger Pit.

Admission is free to get in, however, Alamogordo Cheer will be selling T-shirts, buttons and taking donations at the door.

There will be performances from Mountain View Middle School Cheer, Chaparral Middle School Cheer, Alamogordo High School Junior Varsity cheer, AHS Varsity Cheer and the Junior Tiger Cheerleaders.

The community is invited to come out and join Alamogordo Cheer to get a taste of what these students have been working on this year and to help send varsity off to their state competition.

Varsity will be traveling to the NMAA State Spirit Competition on Thursday, March 28, where they will compete in 5A all-girl division presenting two routines: one for game day and one for cheer with music categories.

Varsity has been blessed with success in the three qualifying competitions this season.

First, they took second place in All-Girl Cheer with music and a specialty award of "Best Use of Jumps" at NMSU Spirit Championships on Jan. 19.

They then went onto travel to Goddard High School where they earned a third-place trophy in the 5A All Girl Cheer with Music Division, senior Kyra Harrell also received a personal award for "Best Jumps."

Finally, they traveled the Artesia High School where they received first place in their 5A game day division and also first place in their 5A cheer with music division.

"We are proud of the success they have achieved thus far despite the challenges they have faced, and hope that they use this hope and determination that they have as a team to carry them all the way into the big state competition later this month," AHS Cheer Coach Alice Kelson-Williams said.
