All three of Lewis County's Mountaineer Youth Football cheerleading teams traveled to Phillip Barbour recently, with two teams competing and one putting on a exhibition performance.

The Midget squad fared the best on the day, bringing home a third-place finish in the approximately 13-team field.

Members of the team are Sydney Chipps, Alexis Peck, Ellie Lowther, Audrey Starcher, Nevaeh Robinson, Kiera Perkins, Kylie Weaver, Kylie Marlow, Amaya Mayo, Shelby Hamrick, Grace Freeman, Haeven Clem and Bailey Marple. The team is coached by Mandy Starcher, Autumn Miller, Charla Chipps, Sarah Sherrard and Allison Atchison.

The Pee Wee squad also competed in a 13-team field and didn't place despite a good effort. The team won the praise of its coach, Amy Short, for all the work its members put in this season.

"The girls worked really hard this season. We put in extra practices before competition, and the girls' performance was awesome. Although we didn't place, they are number 1 in our hearts," Short said, adding that the team is already looking forward to training for next year, saying, "The girls are ready to get into gymnastics and can't wait for next season to start."

The Pee Wee team is made up of Vivian Abrego, Mackenzie Jackson, Maddie Lough, Nevaeh Mulholland, Sydnie Holcomb, Serinity Saltis, Lihanna Gordon, Sloane Jeffries, Kaylee Eiler, Olivia Shor, and Payj Heater. Short serves as head coach and is assisted by Karli Foster and Lisa Foster.

The Mighty Mite cheer squad did not compete but put on a performance for the crowd during the Pee Wee competition.

The Mighty Mite team is made up of Stephanie Brown, Mia Park, Molly Anderson, Madison Foster, Dixie Mick, Brylee Sawyers, Kianna Rowan, Alexis Terranova, Ashtyn Walton, Harlea Detamore, Hailee Perkins, Zoey Hicks, Kendra Holcomb, Raelynn Blake, Piper Bross, Leah Marsh, Audrey Brown, Ava Grogg, Madelyn Alton, Emily Donaldson, Helen Allen, Sophia Lowther, Kennedy Church, Breonna Lewis, Aubree McKisic and Payton Stackpole. The team is coached head coach Desiree Detamore, who is assisted by Casey Brown, Kristin Droppleman and Kelsey Tenney.
