GCM cheerleaders to host cake auction and dinner on Dec. 7 - The Baytown Sun

November 21, 2019 at 04:23AM

Those with a Baytown-style sweet tooth are invited to bid during the inaugural "Taco 'Bout a Cake Auction" dinner and auction on Saturday, Dec. 7, featuring the Goose Creek Memorial High School Patriot cheerleaders and the cakes they create.

Admission is $8 and includes a meal — a bowl of taco soup, grated cheese, Fritos and drink — and the opportunity to bid on multiple cakes. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the cake auction starts at 6 at Goose Creek Memorial High School cafeteria.

During the auction, cheerleaders will present their creations in intervals as listeners bid on them. There will also be a silent auction featuring Kendra Scott earrings, Rockets tickets and many other items.

Donations are also needed for a silent auction. Auction items may be dropped off at Goose Creek Memorial High School, 6001 E. Wallisville Road, (attention: Nancy Jacobs) or The Teapot Depot in Highlands, 112 Denny St., (attention Missy Norton).

All cakes and silent auction items will be sold to the highest bidder with all proceeds going toward the cheer team's February trip to the National High School Cheerleading Championship at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The top three buyers will be highlighted in The Baytown Sun.

In addition to working very hard at their sport, the GCM cheer team has been fundraising to offset the cost of the trip.

"We have made a huge dent in our bill for Nationals, but we are not there yet," said cheer coach Nancy Jacobs. "Cake auction proceeds will be targeted exclusively to lower the cost of our team's participation in this amazing event.

"Our team is so excited, and we appreciate everyone's support to make this happen for them. Any help would be wonderful and put to good use making this a reality for Goose Creek Memorial Cheer!" Jacobs added.

Jacobs also invites the Baytown and Highlands business communities to help sponsor the cheer trip to Florida through donations. To become a GCM cheer sponsor, contact Jacobs at 281-421-4400 or email Nancy.Jacobs@gccisd.net
