The Baystate Conference has initiated a complete and thorough investigation into this situation, it announced this morning, November 8.,
"The Baystate Board strongly condemns the actions of the coaches involved because racism is not tolerated. We are committed to providing a supervised, safety-oriented football and cheerleading program for all participants," said the Conference, which includes Framingham Youth Football and Cheerleading.
"Although Jason Smith has taken a voluntary leave, the Board will determine his status after the conclusion of its ongoing internal investigation," said the Conference.
Smith serves on the Board of Directors for the BayState Youth Football and Cheerleading Conference. He is the football coordinator for the Conference, as well as the President of Framingham Youth Football and Cheerleading (FYFC).
Last night, Smith voluntarily and temporarily stepped down from the board with FYFC, while it conducted an investigation.
On Tuesday night, members of the FYFC board voted to terminate three 6th grade coaches, including its head coach, after the board learned of racists messages by the three coaches.
