The Gateway High School student section was asked to leave the game against McKeesport on Friday evening after the students wore surgical masks and reportedly yelled chants with obscenities. Watch video of the students being escorted out of the stadium in the video player above. Video shows the students exiting the stadium. All of them dressed in white for Friday night's McKeesport home game. The cheerleaders also reportedly wore surgical masks at the game. "At certain games they always scream, like, 'Diseaseport, diseaseport'. That's what they always say, but they've never come with masks on, though. They all had masks on. Every last one of them had masks on, even the cheerleaders. Which, that wasn't even part of their uniforms, so that was really disrespectful," said Jamera Barber, a McKeesport student. The incident happened in the first quarter of the game. McKeesport's superintendent said the students were chanting obscenities. The superintendent said a police officer asked them to stop, but they continued chanting. They were then escorted out of the stadium. The superintendent said the Gateway students came on a school bus without very much supervision. UPDATE: Gateway School Board President Mary Beth Cirucci released the following statement Saturday:"We (the school board) are aware of the incident at the McKeesport football game and believe it to be disrespectful and wrong and we have every intention of holding those who are responsible accountable for their actions and doing everything to ensure this type of disrespectful behavior does not occur again in the future. The matter will be looked into fully."
