Thursday morning was like 1999 all over again for former New Rochelle High School cheerleaders.

They were among the first guests ever on Good Morning America and returned to celebrate the national TV show's 20th anniversary in the Times Square Studio.

The cheerleaders, some of whom are now teaching and coaching in the school district, were on the show during its first week in New York City.

"I remember seeing Cindy Crawford that day and being excited about being on TV, and it just brought us right back to that time," said Danielle Powers, who's now a special education teacher at Trinity Elementary School and a cheerleading coach in the district. "It's like we didn't skip a beat. We don't get to see each other for a long time, but it feels like it was just yesterday. We were laughing and joking around and doing each other's hair and getting ready. We were planning our cheer and our spacing and timing ... It was exciting and nervous at the same time but more exciting."

Powers said some stunts and cheers that they teach today's New Rochelle High School cheerleaders have changed, but the staples have stayed the same for generations.

One of the classic, traditional cheers is, "Who are you yelling for? New Ro High School." They performed this cheer and replaced "New Ro High School" with "Good Morning America."

"It was more than a cheer," Powers said. "It was symbolic of the tradition of the team and the program and the school."

Powers is one of three members of the 1999 team that came back to the school district to teach and coach. The other two are high school physical education and PAVE dance teacher Kristine Ferreira and Albert Leonard Middle School teaching assistant Victoria Domenici.

"A producer got in touch with one girl from our team who got in touch with all of us, and it was just a fun day," Ferreira said. "It's very nostalgic. We came from all over. One woman came from Mary
