At Hope Hall, the school community is praying for the family of 18-year-old Casan Curry, a student who recently graduated from the school that focuses on meeting the needs of students that learn differently.

"Casan had some learning challenges and his mom Sharla brought him to us when he was in the third grade," said the founder of Hope Hall, Sister Diana Dolce.

Casan was one of five passengers traveling in an SUV just south of Erie, Pennsylvania Sunday when the vehicle went off the highway and rolled over several times.

Casan's mother and City of Rochester employee, 48-year-old Sharla Davenport, died at the scene.

Sister Diana called Sharla the best advocate and cheerleader for her son, as well as the other students. Sharla even received an award from Hope Hall for her involvement at the school.

"She embraced all the kids. Her son played on our high school basketball team, Sharla put on a pizza party for the kids. Her son played on our soccer team, Sharla put on an appreciation party for the kids," recalled Sister Diana.

Casan remains hospitalized in Pennsylvania with serious injuries. Sister Diana was able to talk with him from his hospital bed.

"I said, 'I just want you to know that I love you, we all love you, we're praying for you and you're going to be OK,' and he said, 'thank you,'" said Sister Diana.

Sister Diana says the school community is moving from shock to grief to what can we do to help this family.

Teachers and students want to come together as a community so they're putting together a service for Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. at Hope Hall to offer prayers for Casan and his family.
