Fit Atelier, a Charlotte-based experiential retail concept featuring athletic apparel and signature in-studio workout classes, is expanding to Uptown this fall.

The new studio will be located in a 770-square-foot glassed-in loft space above the lobby in the Carillon Building at 227 W. Trade St. It's expected to open in early October.

"With innovation and continuous growth at the core of the Fit Atelier brand, we recognized an opportunity with Fit Atelier: Uptown to introduce our curated approach to classes that are as equally entertaining as they are effective to an entirely new audience," said Fit Atelier CEO Brit Turner.

The main studio located in South End's Design Center will remain the brand's hub.

Fit Atelier's Signature Class Collective functions as an incubator for innovative new fitness concepts in Charlotte and new classes are currently in development for the Uptown studio.

The program grooms top fitness trainers to roll out new workout classes in a low-risk environment with highly competitive pay.

"Our team works closely with them to hone their concept, iron out any kinks and bring these incredible classes to market in an expedient and unique way that allows completely new concepts to survive," Turner said.

Fit Atelier instructors are paid 50 percent of what their class brings in with a minimum of $40/class regardless of headcount and up to $230 for a sold out class.

New classes are currently in the works and they're looking to add strength-based workouts that appeal to both men and women to the existing female-dominant lineup.

Current Fit Atelier signature classes include:

Ballet Fit Theory – Dance-inspired workout from former ballerina Sophie Folts-Mercure

Centré – Full-body progressive tempo workout by Jordan Hill

SCLPT MTHD – Body and mind workout by Abby Wilson combining body weight, dumbbells, plyometrics and HIIT training

The Beat – High-intensity dance cardio class by NFL cheerleader Allison Armstrong

West Kept Secret – High-intensity interval training developed by former Panthers Topcat Marissa West

In addition to interactive fitness classes, Fit Atelier carries hard-to-find luxury fitness apparel brands in studio and online.

Popular brands include Ultracor, Michi, Koral and more. But Turner sees $200 leggings as a secondary complement to Fit Atelier's bigger mission.

"The face of boutique fitness is changing rapidly, and our team is on the forefront developing not just classes, but fitness and wellness movements that we see changing the entire industry," she said.
