Emily White, a 2019 graduate of Bradley Central High School, has been named recipient of the third annual Ashlyn Taylor Lamberth Memorial Scholarship.
Cathy Barrett, president of the Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County, made the joint announcement with the family of the late Ashlyn Lamberth, and Miss Carol's Playschool.
The scholarship was established in 2015 by Miss Carol's Playschool and is supported by Ashlyn Lamberth's family and friends, Barrett explained.
White, the scholarship recipient, will attend Cleveland State Community College this fall where she plans to study Business Administration.
Recognized for her high academic achievement, she was named class salutatorian. While at Bradley, she was a basketball cheerleader and participated in Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and Bachelorettes.
In the scholarship recipient's recommendation letter, her chemistry teacher described Emily as "very intentional about living a life full of integrity. I truly admire her character, love for others, and her consistency."
Tony Lamberth, Ashlyn's father, reflected on the establishment of the scholarship in his daughter's memory.
"In creating this scholarship, my wife, my son, and hundreds of family members and friends are trying to continue Ashlyn's legacy where she left off," he explained. "During her short time, Ashlyn brightened many lives with her care and concern for others."
He added, "So, we present this scholarship that bears her name, to honor and remember Ashlyn's beautiful spirit and her many accomplishments. In this small way her too-short life can continue to have meaning."
The $1,000 scholarship recognizes a BCHS student and is awarded on the basis of academic performance, community service and financial need.
The Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County is a public, nonprofit, community foundation where many donors join together to make the community they love a better place, today and for future generations.
The Community Foundation is made up a collection of individual charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses, and other nonprofits and foundations.
"The Community Foundation is committed to serving and understanding donor needs, handling complex charitable gifts, wisely managing charitable funds, and leveraging its community knowledge and partnerships to increase charitable impact," Barrett said.
