Cascade Christian cheerleaders spent the weekend cleaning cars to raise money for their team.

"We do that every summer to fundraise money for competition expenses for our team because we are competitive," coach Becky Abbott said. "We don't just cheer for Cascade Christianfootball and basketball. We also compete too."

After raising about $500 dollars, the team learned later that day that Eagle Point Community Church pastor Richard Bull and Grace Cascade Christian teacher Becky Bull had lost their home in a structure fire.

"We were just devastated," Abbott said. "Is there anything we, as cheerleaders, can do to help them? Especially with the Bull family being part of our Cascade Christian community."

With many connections to the family, sophomore Tiana Williams said the girls immediately wanted to give back.

"Especially with her being a teacher at our sister school, it's just the love that we have for them and especially being a pastor who gives back all the time to the community," Williams said.

Abbott said this is also her personal way of giving back to the woman who helped her own son develop in school.

"She was my son's teacher in 2017 and was just an awesome advocate for him," Abbott said. "He really struggled socially and she really was in a way her own cheerleader for my son. That was such a blessing to me."

Abbott said giving is a characteristic she hopes will stay with the girls throughout their life.

"Our goal as with our program, whether it be as our youth or our junior program or high schoolers, is we really want to build character in these kids," Abbott said.

The initial $500 has now turned into a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $6,000 (as of Tuesday evening) to help the Bull family rebuild their home and future.

The team is continuing their efforts to raise money for the family, with tabling for donations at the Eagle Point Walmart on Saturday.
