STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Island Chateau, Grasmere, was the setting on May 24 for the Sweet 16 celebration of Victoria Ferguson, a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy High School.

Dressed in an ultra gorgeous, strapless, beaded red ballgown, Victoria chose a "Fergalicious" theme for her soiree, transforming the ballroom with red, black and silver decor, wherein 120 of Victoria's closest family and friends danced the night away.

And not only is Victoria beautiful, but she is also compassionate and generous, raising money and awareness for juvenile diabetes, a disease close to her heart.

"My daughter, Victoria, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2012 at age 9, but has not let that stop her from living her life to the fullest," said dad Ray Ferguson.

Every year, young Victoria participates in the JDRF One Walk, and to date has raised over $27,000 to help fund research for a cure for juvenile diabetes.

"Not only is she an advocate for JDRF, but also is an All-Star Cheerleader for Staten Island Spirit," added Ferguson. "She enlightens all around her with her infectious smile, and loves spending time with her family and friends."

According to Ferguson, Victoria has taken to heart what her mother has told her: "God wouldn't give you something you couldn't handle."

"She has turned it into the inspiration that she uses every day to conquer all of life's challenges," he added. "Having this Sweet 16 was a dream come true for her, and seeing the smile on her face all night made it all the more worthwhile."
