Centennial's cheerleading teams had a strong showing at the during National Cheer Association's Innovative Speed Camp at the University of Oklahoma.
The varsity and sub-varsity squads attended the camp June 10-12.
'Speed Camps' were created for squads who focus their summer goals on cutting edge stunts and tumbling. The camp focus is on team success and growth and not necessarily competition for the squads, but a final day performance.
While at camp, individual athletes are given the opportunity to earn individual successes and Spartan Cheer came home with their arms full of medals.
Fifteen student-athletes earned All American honors at the camp. The student-athletes went through a very difficult tryout including elite stunts, tumbling, jumps and a cheer taught at the camp. If they make a single error, they are removed from the process.
"This is a huge honor," Centennial head cheer coach Barbara Johnston said. The team's assistant coach is Krista Porter.
Spartan cheerleaders who earned NCA All American were Abby Allen, Lindsi Bennett, Ashton Birdsall, Ivy Cash, Brooklyn Fleming, Braiden Gonzalez, Bryce Gray, Sydney Hays, Kinley Hendrix, Lia Hood, Mark Oakley, Kailee Porter, Kenzie Watson, Tatem Williams, and McKynlee Woods.
Hays and Steward also garnered staff applications by the NCA staff because they believe these student-athletes have the qualities to work for NCA in the future
To go along with the staff application, Hays was selected Top 7 All American as one of the top seven student-athletes at camp following the All American tryout.
The Lady Spartan Cheerleaders, Hays, Harley Lyle, and Oakley, were given the Pin It Forward award. These-student athletes were selected by staff or other campers as helpful and hard working.
The two student-athletes at Centennial who perform as mascots also won awards.
Kaitlyn Hankins, who is Sparty, brought home the Mascot Unity Award and the Mascot Prop Artist Award. Haley Johnson, who is Sparty Jr., nabbed the Most Creative Mascot Award and the Mascot Leadership Award.
The varsity and sub-varsity squads earned bids to the NCA High School National Championship in Dallas in Jan. 2020.
