The Red Bay varsity cheerleading squad recently attended the UCA Cheer Camp in Gulf Shores. Cheer coach Emily Hester said the Tiger cheerleaders learned several new cheers, dances and stunts.
"These girls have really worked hard and competed well together," said Hester. "They learned so much new stuff, and they are excited to bring it all back and implement it as they cheer on the football team this fall and carry over to basketball."
The Tigers received Superior ribbons for cheer, sideline and band dance. Overall they placed third in the large varsity division, and they also received the spirit stick each night during camp.
"We are so proud of the hard work and dedication of each of these girls," said Hester.
Squad captain Bailey Bolton and co-captain Alexis Tabbs tried out for All-American Cheer, which allows them to be a part of the New Year's Day Parade in London. Both Bolton and Tabbs were selected to be a part of this team, and both girls were also chosen to receive the "Pin It Forward" award, which is selected by the UCA staff based on their leadership capabilities.
Bolton was also chosen to try out to be a part of the UCA Staff for the summer of 2020, where she will get to travel and lead cheer camps all across the country.
The varsity Tigers are Bolton, Tabbs, Anna-Kate Kennedy, Reagan Humphries, Kayleigh Scott, Madisyn Hester, Makenzi Hester, Chloe Knoblock, Sierra Terrell, Talli Hamilton, Destinee Lancaster, Alivia Harris, Makenna Ables and Kaitlyn Bullard.
The junior high Tigers attended camp at the University of Alabama under the leadership of Cayla Hardin.
The junior Tigers claimed four blue ribbons, one red ribbon and two spirit sticks. Abby Hicks got a "Pin It Forward" award and achieved All-American cheerleader status.
"I'm very proud of them," said Hardin. "They had to put in a lot of hard work this year and had to overcome some adversity. It says a lot about these girls."
The junior Tigers are Grace Mason, Jayden Bullard, Abby Hicks, Britley Hardin, Lexi Howard, Melee Weaver, Allie Hester, Gretchen Davis, Isabella Mills, Nanci Nunez, Kenzlee Bohannah and Veronica McCalpin.
