PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Wheeling Park, Bridgeport and Wheeling Central have clinched Girls MVB Champions Cup titles for the 2018-2019 scholastic sports season. The Patriots and the Indians have completed successful title defenses from last season.
In Class AAA, Wheeling Park claimed a state championship in cheerleading and runner-up finishes in soccer and track to claim the girls championship. Morgantown finished second.
In Class AA, the Bridgeport girls surpassed their winning total from last season by 104 points. The Indians won the state volleyball title and claimed runner-up finishes in cross country, swimming and track. Winfield finished second in the final standings.
Wheeling Central used a runner-up finish in softball to pass Williamstown for the top spot in Class A. The Maroon Knights were also second-place finishers in cheerleading.
The boys competitions will conclude after the state baseball tournament wraps up this Saturday. In Class AAA, Parkersburg currently has the lead but Wheeling Park has earned enough points to pass the Big Reds by qualifying for states in baseball.
Winfield holds a slim seven point lead on Fairmont Senior in Class AA. But Bridgeport is in position to pass both of those schools based on their result at state baseball.
And in Class A, Williamstown has clinched the MVB Cup title. Wheeling Central will finish second.
