Vanessa Lo named Elks Student of the Month - Lexington Clipper Herald

LEXINGTON — Vanessa Lo, daughter of Leng Lo and Siv Kuy, a senior at Lexington High School, has been named as Elks Student of the Month.

Lo was chosen as Elks Student of the Month for her exceptional academic marks, community service and extracurricular activity involvement.

Lo is currently ranked fourth in her class of 201 students. She has maintained a 4.6 grade point average and her grades have never fallen below an A since she entered high school during the 2015-16 school year. She is currently working on advanced calculus honors, American government, Chemistry honors, college English, criminal justice, band and physics honors.

She has been involved in a number of athletics during her time at LHS. She has been involved with school and traveling teams of basketball and softball. In track and field she ran short distance races. She earned a second place medal at a state powerlifting meet. She remains a part of Unified Bowling. Lo has also been a cheerleader from 2017 to the present and has been a cheer captain her senior year.

Lo didn't stop with athletics but has been involved with a number of clubs and organizations as well. She has served on the Student Principal Educational Advisory Committee from 2016 to 2019. She was elected vice president of the committee her senior years.

She has also been involved with National Honors Society and was voted in as a junior representative and was voted president her senior year. During her time with the NHS she helped with blood drives.

Lo was inducted into the L-Club as a freshman letter winner and she has also served on student council since her freshman year.

In addition to these clubs, Lo has also been involved in other student activities. She has participated in the band, performing with the marching band, concert band and pep band. She has played both the clarinet and tenor saxophone.

She has also participated in the University of Nebraska Lincoln Math Day academic Decathlon and won first place in the math category as well as being the highest scorer from Lexington both her sophomore and junior year.

Lo has also earned a number of awards. She has been on the honor roll her entire high school career as well as having perfect attendance during both semesters of her junior year.

Lo was also recognized during the school's Destination Graduation event for having all A's for every quarter and the Triple Threat Award for having perfect attendance, while having straight A's and being involved in an extracurricular activity.

She was also the recipient of the Sesquicentennial National History Day Award in 2017, for which she received a $100 check.

Lo also has work experience at the Orthman Community YMCA where she is a building monitor and child watch supervisor from 2017 to the present.

In a letter of recommendation Head Cheerleading Coach Randi Todd said, "During the years I have known Vanessa, she has shown leadership in and out of uniform. Vanessa is a respectable and responsible young woman who works hard. Her dedication to school work has been impeccable. I can say with confidence Vanessa is a dedicated student athlete who leads by example."
