NEEDLES — The Needles High School cheerleading squad is to learn new cheers, chants, dances, stunts and more this summer at a Universal Cheerleaders Association Varsity Spirit Cheer Camp.

Mustang Cheer is going door-to-door asking for donations to attend the camp. They'll be conducting a community cleanup fundraiser on Saturday, April 13. Last year they collected three tons of trash from city and desert.

The cheer camp focuses heavily on leadership training, helping the young athletes develop skills needed to be spirit and crowd leaders and ambassadors for their school and community. Their physical performance is enhanced by private team coaching and training in voice, motions and crowd interaction plus stunt and pyramid instruction including safety awareness, spotting, stunt qualification, pyramid structures, inversions, braced rolls and flips. Mustang Cheer expects to build, bond and grow as a team through the exercises.
