In his Opening Monologue, Sean Hannity took on the media's fawning over former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas), arguing it is reminiscent of the easy treatment given to Barack Obama in 2008.
Hannity said that the media "fell in love" with the "former failed Senate candidate," playing clips of several journalists heaping praise on the 46-year-old El Paso native, who announced his candidacy last week.
NBC News reporter Heidi Przybyla said O'Rourke "has a way of speaking inspirationally," and the Daily Beast's Sam Stein said that he exudes "vibrancy and youthfulness."
"It's like Jesus Christ Superstar seeing this guy in front of people. He has that celebrity aura about him," Vanity Fair's Joe Hagan said on MSNBC.
"Do you feel like you're kinda having deja vu here?" Hannity responded.
"It's almost like we've seen this kind of cheerleading from the supposedly unbiased mainstream media before. We did. They were in love with Barack Obama," Hannity responded.
He played clips of MSNBC's Chris Matthews saying Obama's public speaking gave him a "thrill up [his] leg" and other reporters giving Obama the "rock star" treatment in their coverage of the race.
Hannity said that if the media properly vetted Obama, America may have avoided the eight-year "disaster" of a presidency.

Hannity pointed out that Reuters reporter Joseph Menn was found recently to have sat on a story about O'Rourke's role as a member of a hacking group as a teenager.
Hannity said Menn's story revealed O'Rourke was a member of the Cult of the Dead Cow, and participated in hacking thefts of video games as well as long-distance phone services that he used to facilitate his dial-up internet at the time.
O'Rourke wrote posts under the screen name "Psychedelic Warlord."
According to Menn, he agreed to a deal with former members of the hacking group, who refused to confirm O'Rourke's affiliation unless Menn promised not to report the details until after the Texas Senate election last November.
