Cheerleaders win national event - Snoqualmie Valley Record

Universal Cheerleaders Association National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla. On Feb. 8, Mount Si High School gameday cheerleading teams won a first-place title as national champions in the Super-Varsity Non-Tumbling Game Day Event at the Universal Cheerleaders Association National High School Cheerleading Championship held in Orlando, Fla.It's the local teams first national championship title.The following day, Mount Si varsity red cheer team captured a silver title in Super-Varsity Non-Tumbling Traditional event.On Feb. 10, Mount Si competed in the 2019 World School cheerleading Championship and captured a Silver and fifth-place trophy.The recent performances follow two state titles won by Mount Si cheer the previous weekend Feb. 1-2 at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association State Cheer Championship held in Battle Ground."Between missed practices due to the early February snowstorm and illness during and following our State Championship, we headed into Nationals not having had a full practice in almost two weeks and with kids still recovering from being sick," Mount Si cheerleading coach Jessii Stevens said. "Walking off the national floor with one National Championship in Super Varsity Non-Tumbling Gameday and a second-place finish in Super Varsity Non-Tumble, just goes to show how focused our kids were on their goals, as well as how mentally and physically tough they are. (Coach Robby Sortore) and I couldn't be more proud."The Mount Si cheerleaders are coached by Jessii Stevens, Robby Sortore and Tori Kirk.The cheerleaders are divided into three teams: red, gameday and silver. This year, silver won second place in its state division.
