Berkshire County Sports Notes: PHS cheerleaders look to finish strong winter season - Berkshire Eagle

PITTSFIELD — After finishing the fall season with a second-place finish at the state championships, the Pittsfield High Cheerleaders, just two points short of an invitation to nationals, set their sights on a strong winter season.

On Feb. 9, at the Chicopee Comprehensive High School tournament, both the Varsity and JV cheerleaders took home first-place finishes.

The success continued seven days later with two more first-place finishes, this time at the West Springfield tournament. The Varsity crew also claimed the title of Grand Champions by outscoring 25 other teams.

Just a day later, the varsity squad racked up a second-place finish at the South Hadley High School tournament.

The Generals added a bronze-medal performance at the Shepherd Hill tournament on Feb. 22, before taking another first-place finish at the Berkshire County and Pioneer Valley League Championship on Feb. 24.

Pittsfield, led by captions Ally Guyer and Jenitza Rodriguez, outscored 21 teams and qualified for the Western Mass. Regional tournament.

The tournament begins Sunday, March 3 at Shepherd Hill High School. With another strong performance, the Generals will have a shot at the state tournament, which is held at Tantasqua High School on March 10.

Dalton CRA girls basketball team wins tournament

The Dalton CRA Warriors 3rd/4th grade girls travel basketball team won the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires tournament last weekend. Attached is a picture of the team.

Berkshire Attack takes silver at Laxabunga

The Attack outscored their opponents 47-24 en-route to a second-place finish at the Laxabunga Indoor tournament in Milton, New York.

Sierra Murray and Carolyn Jones each connected on 11 goals, while Hannah Bowlby added another nine.

Emma Adams, Emily Figiela and Maya Creamer provided the local squad with strong defense as the Attack finished the tournament with a record of 3-1.

North Adams baseball signups

The North Adams baseball team for kids ages 13-15 is hosting signups for the upcoming season. The registration will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the American Legion in North Adams.

The tryouts will be on March 23 at the Williams College fieldhouse, starting at 3 p.m.

Anyone interested in coaching or being on the league board should come to the board meeting on March 20 at the American Legion in North Adams, starting at 7 p.m.

Williamstown Cal Ripken baseball/softball registration

The Williamstown Cal Ripken baseball and softball teams are hosting registrations for the upcoming 2019 season.

Registration is available online at williamstowncalripken.com.

Boys and girls are eligible to play in the baseball league. Children must be between ages 4 (before Sept. 1, 2019) and 12 (as of April 30, 2019 for baseball, or Dec. 31, 2019 for softball).

Baseball is comprised of four levels — Grant League (Pre-K and kindergarten), Rookie (Grades 1-2), Minors (Grades 3-4) and Majors (Grades 5-7).

Softball has two levels — 10U (Ages 8-10) and 12U (Ages 10-12).
