ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brentwood Academy

Lauren Freeman

Junior

Lauren Freeman, daughter of Natasha and Rod Freeman, is a junior at Brentwood Academy and this week's Kerr and Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.

She is a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Team. This season, she said that the Senior Night game has been the biggest highlight. "The game on Friday the 15th of February, it was senior night and we played Father Ryan. The boys went into three overtimes and then we won. The crowd was excited, the student section was energetic, and the cheerleaders were cheering hard."

Freeman first became interested in trying cheer when she was finishing up her seventh grade year. She said she heard tryouts were coming up soon and she was intrigued. "I had never done cheer before and I wanted to try something new," she said. After she tried out and made the team she said it quickly became her favorite sport.

When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, "I usually think about how thankful I am to the Lord for giving me my gifts. There are many people who would love to be on a cheer squad to be at the games getting the crowd excited; I am so thankful that God has given me this opportunity."

Her biggest role model is her mother, Natasha. She said she looks up to her for her caring attitude and her service to God.

Freeman describes herself as kind, loyal, compassionate and diligent. In addition to cheering, she also runs track, plays tennis, sings and volunteers.

After graduating from BA, she is planning to go to college to start her pursuit in becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
