Bethany Lavalais, 3 (front), smiles as she is cheered on by the Louisiana College Cheerleaders at the 2019 Cenla Down Syndrome Association's annual Buddy Walk held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Louisiana State Emergency Mega Shelter on Highway 71 South. With Bethany are her aunt Kenya Bookman, mother Kenna Lavalais and father Gerrick Lavalais. The Cenla Buddy Walk was part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the National Down Syndrome Society's Buddy Walk. In addition to the walk, representatives from the Lecompete Fire Department, Rapides Parish Fire District 3, Acadian Ambulance and the Pineville Police Department and the Louisiana College Cheerleaders, Share Care USA, Pets and People, Girl Scout Troop 225, Early Steps, Monkey Shines 4 Kids and Adam Rhoades with Insight Sound were on hand to meet with children and families.
