A historically black North Carolina college says its cheerleaders won't perform again during basketball season in light of rape allegations made by a cheer team member.

News outlets report a spokesman for North Carolina A&T State University said Wednesday the team won't perform at its basketball games or at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament in March.

A&T's cheerleaders haven't performed since early February after a freshman cheerleader alleged publicly that a former member of the marching band raped her. The victim says the team's two coaches brushed off her claims and didn't report them as required by federal law. She has demanded that both coaches be fired.

A temporary suspension for the cheerleaders was to last until at least Feb. 19, but they learned this week their season was over.
